I'm very interested in BU and want to apply ED to the School of Management (aka Questrom). I've heard that the grading is insanely difficult there, though, which is throwing me off a bit. Can anyone give me some insight on whether or not the grading there really is ridiculously hard? I just feel like that's an exaggeration..

Easy Class Recommendations?
Hi, I'm trying to transfer out of BU at the end of the coming year. My GPA is currently only a 3.32. I am studying Journalism with a minor in Business. Since I want to better my gpa before trying to transfer out and only have 2 semesters to do so, I wanted to ask if anyone can recommend easy courses to take at BU. Also, which Com201 and Wr150 professors are easy graders.
Thank you!

Chance Me for BU!!
What's up, guys!
I'm a rising senior and trying to figure things out right now. I'm really interested in BU and want to apply ED to the Business School. I consider it a target/match school, but can anyone give me feedback?
Anyways, here's my profile:
UNWEIGHTED GPA (Averaged over last 3 years): 3.71 (Freshman- 3.77, Sophomore- 3.6, Junior- 3.70)
WEIGHTED GPA (Accumulated over last 3 years): 4.44
2 APs this year (BC Calculus (4 on BC exam, 5 AB subscore), English Lang & Comp (5)). I'm taking 3 next year (Spanish, Comp Sci, English Lit & Comp). I took AP World History (4) last year and AP Human Geography (2, lol, not sending that score obviously) as a freshman. I took one CP (regular level) class this year (physics) because my school only offers that or AP Physics and I couldn't do the AP, and I know that definitely looks bad, so yikes.
Extracurriculars:
Varsity Volleyball for 3 years (next year included, Freshman team in 9th grade
Cooking Club President
JSC Member
Mentor/Director of Freshman Mentoring Program
FBLA Treasurer
Academy of Finance (selective finance program at my school)
Did workshops at an RBS Work Study program for business
Volunteer at Local Nature Center for 6 years
Student Representative on School Governance Council
Honors:
National Honors Society
Spanish National Honors Society
Business National Honors Society
2 President's Volunteering Awards
Highly selective Academic/Sports Scholarship Recipient
Book Award from The University of Rochester
ACT Composite- 30 (Taken twice, below are the HIGHEST scores from both tests for each sections, because BU says they look at the highest scores from however many tests you took)
Math- 33
English- 33
Reading- 32
Science- 24
SAT Subject Tests (waiting for results)
Math II
Literature
HOOKS: Cuban (underrepped minority), female
My essay will most likely be about my heritage and my family. They won't be boring or generic, though, my story is pretty unique. :)

Guide to Computer Science at BU
I'll be leaving BU but I had a great two years. This is a student's perspective on the CS program and department. A website can tell you about the curriculum and requirements, but I can tell you my experience. Feel free to ask me any questions and private message me.
-Education
First off, the only degree offered at BU is a Bachelor's in Arts in Computer Science. All majors in the College of Arts & Sciences are offered as BAs. Do BA or BS matter when getting a job? Not at all! They're just different based on general requirements but they typically take the same CS classes.
Pretty much most CS programs and curriculums are similar because the ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) has a standard for undergraduate CS programs and requirements. Professors at BU tell me that the program is considered more theoretical because the CS program grew out of the math department. Personally I'm a fan of theoretical CS but if you're interested in an applied education, you have the options of not taking as many theoretical classes.
Your first CS class, if you don't have the AP credit, is Introduction to CS 1. The course is taught in python and is generally very easy. The following course is Data Structures, which is taught in Java. You'll learn how to build your own data structures and learn some basic sorting/searching algorithms. Afterwards, you'll take Computer Systems, where you learn about how data is represented in computers, assembly language, caches, etc. You'll also take an introductory discrete math class, a linear algebra class, and then options to take probability or applied abstract algebra. Algorithm analysis, considered the most difficult class in the curriculum, is required for all majors. There are also 300 level requirements and you get to choose 2 out of the three - programming languages, computing systems, or theory of computation. The rest are electives. Some people will double in math + cs, or cs + econ. Whatever floats your boat!
Some of the professors are actually awful teachers. Before signing up, make sure to check your professor ratings. If a bad teacher is teaching a class, I'd say wait out a semester or two. The good professors at BU are Professor Sullivan, Professor Snyder, Professor Matta, Professor Appavoo, Professor Byers, and Professor Crovella.
Avoid Professor Gacs, Professor Levin, and Professor Xie. Seriously.
-Extracurriculars
We have a small, tight knit community. I think we have around 300 CS majors, 30% female 70% male. There are a bunch of great student groups.
CS student groups at BU:
BUILDS - have a small hacking room in the Math & CS building, hold awesome workshops, also has a small ctf/security group.
Global App Initiative - group of students who build apps for non-profits.
Open Web - selective club of students dedicated to building quality software
Women in CS - community for everyone with goals of encouraging and educating about women in cs. Also bring in a lot of top companies to campus.
MakeBU - weekly hack nights
BU HPC club - high performance computing club; they compete at a lotta competitions
There's also a facebook group for CS majors. The people and professors are supportive. Professors are always open to having undergrads join their labs. Getting research is important, especially if you have grad school in mind.
-Job Search, Career stuff
There are a bunch of job fairs at BU. The fairs to look out for are the fairs for the College of Engineering students. CS isn't in College of Engineering, so you'll have to look up on ENG's website. They try to be exclusive about their fairs haha. Also look out for the startup job fair! That's a lotta fun.
We've had Google, Yelp, and GE hold tech talks here. No one's going to hand you a job or internship, and you'll have to network and work hard for yourself. We honestly don't have strong tech connections, but with hard work you can be successful.
I like the CS department here because of the people and the community. We're not a top CS school, but we have a supportive community. Everyone helps each other.

BU vs Holy Cross vs Tufts
So as of now I think these are my 3 choices due to finances.
BU has been my dream school (along with northeastern but it's too expensive) since Sophomore year. When I visited I really liked it. I could see myself being friends with the people, being involved on campus, etc ect. I really do like the BU campus (or lack of it). Honestly, I would commit to BU if it wasn't for the presence of grade deflation, especially gen chem being the weed out class, since I am pre-med. IDK I don't ant to work my butt off only to earn mediocre grades. I've heard various opinions on the presence/ non-presence of grade deflation at BU, and I've come to the conclusion that it exists, and a handful of students at BU have told me the same. I know I'm a good student, but I think that the reason I get good grades is part intelligence and part hard work. I think im averagely smart, but I definitely make up what I lack in intelligence in hard work, but I am afraid that at BU that won't cut it. BU out of pocket: $24k + 7k/year in loans
Holy Cross- It was ehhhh. There's a strong lack of diversity and it's way too close to home. I think the only reason I'm still considering it is because it's affordable, and that they have a strong pre-med program. HC out of pocket: $23k + 8k/year in loans
Tufts- I visited this past weekend and it was ehhh. There is also a lack of diversity on campus. I feel like everyone wants me to come here because it's the best academic school that I got into, and being pre-med i know that it's a really good school for that. Tufts was my reach school, and I was shocked when I got in. Everyone at Tufts is beyond brilliant, i really do not understand how i got in. I feel like if i go to Tufts I'm going to be like the dumbest person there. When I went to Tufts and told people that I was choosing b/w BU, Northeastern (at the time) and Tufts, everyone looked at me and was like what??! Tufts is the obvious answer. My parents want me to go to Tufts as well, and so do so many other people around me. I value my parents's opinions but lets be real. They are not the ones that are going to be studying, going to classes, and living there for the next 4 yrs. The people at Tufts were okay. I think I was so focused on Northeastern, that I had a closed mind when I was at Tufts, but I couldn't see myself as being friends with some of the people (Maybe due to my closed-mind at the time?). I think my main thing with Tufts is that I feel like I am not academically able to perform well there (esp. since grades are the #1 things med schools look at). Everyone tells me I'll do great wherever I go, but idk, will I? If I go to Tufts, i'll graduate debt free, because they turned all of my loans into grants for being named a Balfour Scholar. $23.5k + no loans - graduate debt free
Nevertheless, I am very blessed to be in such a situation but any input is needed. Thanks in advance.

How is need based financial aid at BU?
I toured the campus this summer and absolutely loved it! Boston is looking like my #1 choice as it stands right now, but the only problem is the cost. I'm confident in my ability to get into BU, but not confident enough in my profile to be granted enough merit aid to get the cost to what I need it to be. My parents are willing to send me to any college as long as it is around 30K a year. That means more than half of my tuition would need to be covered. How is BU typically with financial aid based on need? We are a middle class family, I believe they make about 120k a year between the two of them. I am the last of three children, and the only one they actively have to support, they put the other two through college already. Does anyone have an estimate of what I could expect for financial aid?

EA and ED
Quick question about applying early. If you apply ED to a school I know you cannot apply ED to another, but can you still apply to another school non binding EA? Could I apply to two schools early, one ED and one EA. I am not talking about restrictive single early action, but early decision.
Thanks

Boston University Campus Tour

1. What majors should I take in college?
2. I want to visit Boston University but I'm not sure which college I should tour.
I see several colleges here. http://www.bu.edu/admissions/visit-us/visit-a-school-or-college/
Which one should I visit? The college of fine arts, the college of arts and science, sargent college, or something else?

BU Kilachand Common App
My question isn't that profound, I was just wondering where on the Common App one would express their interest in Kilachand honors college, since I've went over the BU supplement about three times now and still can't find the opt-in spot. Do you have to submit the BU application before you can express interest (kind of like WashU's merit scholarships)? Thanks!

College of General studies

What kind of grades do you need to get into BU's college of general studies? Do they take a holistic approach when evaluating applications?

To those of you unfamiliar with First, it is a STEM based program focused entirely on robotics. I know it is competitive (I have been a participant for several years), but how much weight would a district or regional championship have on my college application? If we won a large award, would this look favorably upon me in the application process? I plan on applying to a stem field in an engineering school.

HL vs SL
Hi, my school is part of the IB curriculum, and for all science classes they offer IB HL, IB SL, or standard level. Would top 20 engineering schools expect you to take all HL courses? Last year as a sophomore I took two HL science courses and found it difficult so as a junior I took two SL (physics and chem 2). Would colleges think poorly of this decision? I am still taking HL math, HL history, and HL english.
Thanks
